Netflix has released the trailer for season five of Bojack Horseman, the best show about an alcoholic horse on television.
Thanks to his titular role in cop show Philbert, Bojack’s star is once again on the rise. But despite the fame, fortune and giant equine blimps that come with television celebrity, Bojack can’t reconcile his newfound success with the issues in his personal life.
Bojack has always teetered between narcissism and self-loathing, but as he navigates his revitalised career, he finds himself unable to accept help. No matter how many of his friends ask Bojack whether he’s OK, our thoroughbred thespian is still hitting the booze and rejecting therapy.
That’s a lot of emotion to pack into a 90 second trailer, and boy do we have a lot of questions. Can Bojack finally begin a meaningful journey towards self-improvement? Does Diane’s new haircut have any symbolic meaning? Why does Todd have a hand for a head at one point? In the words of Princess Carolyn, the trailer is “confusing, which means the show is daring and smart.”
The fifth season of Bojack Horseman arrives on 14th September. For those who are about to cry over a cartoon horse, we salute you.
